The Boston Celtics continued their sublime form going in the postseason as they defeated the defending champions Toronto Raptors by 102-99 to take a 2-0 lead in the conference semifinals. Celtics’ Jayson Tatum was the star of the show as he registered 34 points in the match to take his team to victory.
The youngster showed great form as he scored the career-high 34 points in the playoffs. Furthermore, the 22 year-old also came up with his best free throws as he converted 14/14 shots from the free throw line.
Tatum has impressed one and all and he also became the second youngest player to score 34 points in a playoff match for the Celtics, along with Jaylen Brown.
In fact, Tatum had scored more than 30 points against the Philadelphia 76ers on two occasions in the first conference round of the postseason. Thus, it was his third rendition of more than 30 points in the playoffs of the ongoing season.
Consequently, Tatum is the only player in Celtics postseason history with three performances of more than 30 points before turning 23 years old.
On the other hand, the Raptors struggled to get going as they could not come up with a complete performance. Kyle Lowry, Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet all had miserable shooting performances.
Meanwhile, Kemba Walker and Jaylen Brown struggled to get going in the match for the Boston Celtics. Walker shooting was 6/18 whereas he shot 1/8 from the three-point line. Brown also could not get going as he shot 5/13 from the field. However, Tatum’s heroics were enough to seal the second win of the semifinal conference round.
The youngster will look to continue his sublime form and help Celtics get to the conference finals. The third game of the series will be played on Friday.
