Los Angeles Lakers veteran LeBron James has hinted that he may not play that much longer. James will turn 40 next month and he has indicated that there isn’t much fuel left in his tank to keep going at the top level.
James is still at the top of his fitness and he has been delivering consistently for the Lakers in the new season. He added 35 points, 14 assists, and 12 rebounds against the Grizzlies to become the oldest NBA player to score three straight triple-double.
“I’m not going to play that much longer, to be completely honest,” James told reporters Wednesday as quoted by CNN.
“I don’t know how many years that is. If it’s one year or two years, whatever the case may be.
“I said the other night, I’m not playing until the wheels fall off. I’m not going to be that guy. I’m not going to be the guy who is disrespecting the game because I just wanted to be out on the floor. That won’t be me,” he said after the win.
Despite his age, James is averaging 24.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 9.4 assists in 11 games played this season. The Lakers are currently 9-4 on the season. James is regarded as one of the best players of the current era and he will look to be consistent as long as he is playing.
Meanwhile, James dropped 21 points against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night in the team’s 104-99 win. Furthermore, Anthony Davis was the star of the show with 31 points and 14 rebounds.
The Lakers will next take on the Utah Jazz in the NBA Cup at home on Tuesday night.
