The LA Lakers made a resounding comeback in the first conference playoff round against the Phoenix Suns. The defending champions had lost the opening game of the postseason against the Suns by 99-90 but they came up with a fine collective effort to turn the tables.
The Lakers were at their best as they defeated the Suns by 109-102 on Tuesday night. Anthony Davis, who had a disappointing opening game was back to his absolute best as he scored 34 points to play a key role in the Lakers’ win.
The Lakers had lacked behind in the rebound stats in the opening match but Andre Drummond took care of the same as he came up with 12 rebounds as the team scored a total of 39 rebounds as compared to Suns’ 31. LeBron James contributed again as he scored 23 points and nine assists. Dennis Schroder also had a good game as he scored 24 points.
LeBron James said in the post-match interview, “It’s just a part of hard work and dedication. Putting the hard work in, throughout the course of experiences, now with the defense. I’ve tried to give it over the course of my career and then just working on that craft to play big shots later in the game. And a great screen by AD and I was able to knock it down.”
James added that the team was brilliant defensively, “Man we got to stop it, stop it, stop the defensive rebound, one thing we didn’t do in Game 1. They owned us on the glass but tonight we covered the glass. We would like to continue playing great basketball, coming with aggression both offensively and defensively. Play our game and do what we do. It’s about championship DNA and we got that.”
The Lakers were able to show why they are a champion team and they will aim to continue the good show in the coming matches. The third match of the series between the Lakers and Phoenix Suns will take place on Thursday night.
