The LA Lakers’ woes in the season continued as they lost game 1 of the NBA 2020 playoffs against Portland Trail Blazers. The Portland Trail Blazers, who finished at the eight position in the regular season, stunned the number one team as they won by 100-93. Lakers’ Superstar Anthony Davis top-scored for the team with 28 points whereas Lebron James scored 23 points.
On the other hand, the in-form Damian Lillard, who had recently written his name in the NBA history books with 61 points against Dallas Mavericks, top-scored for the winners as he scored 34 points.
It wasn’t an ideal start for the LA Lakers in the bubble as they lost five out of their eight matches since the NBA resumption. The team has been over-reliant on the shoulders of Lebron James and Anthony Davis and it once again showed in the first playoff match. The duo posted 51 points, 28 assists and 16 rebounds together against the Trail Blazers but their efforts went in vain.
Meanwhile, Lebron James was at his best in the first playoff game. The King had an all-round match as he scored 23 points, 17 rebounds and 16 assists in the match. Consequently, he became the first player in NBA playoffs history to score 15+ points, 15+ rebounds and 15+ assists.
On the other hand, the LA Lakers had an advantage as they took a lead of 12-3 in the fourth quarter. However, Damian Lillard was able to turn the tables for the Portland Trail Blazers as he helped his team bounce back into the contest.
The Lakers would need to make a solid come back and head coach Frank Vogel will want to see a collective team effort. The second game between the LA Lakers and the Trail Blazers will take place on Friday, 21st August.
