The Golden State Warriors succumbed to their second consecutive loss when they were defeated by the Portland Trail Blazers in a thrilling match by 108-106 on Thursday. Kelly Oubre Jr. missed the match for the Warriors and the other players failed to support Curry, the way their coach Steve Kerr would have liked.
Curry was the lone warrior for the Warriors as he scored 35 points, including five three-pointers and three steals. However, his efforts went in vain as his teammates couldn’t put up a decent show and thus the team lost.
In fact, barring Steph Curry, only three players got to the double figures in points but none of them were able to even go past 15. The Warriors head coach Steve Kerr called for a more collective effort from his team and stated that they will need to support Curry as he can not do it all by himself.
Kerr said in the post-match interview, “We just need more scoring in general from anybody other than Steph. He’s generating everything for us on or off the ball. Obviously, without Kelly tonight, took away one of our best scorers. So, we don’t necessarily need scoring from one position. We just need people to step up night in and night out, provide some extra scoring for us, so we’re not relying solely on Steph.”
The Golden State Warriors have won 19 matches whereas they have lost 17 and are currently placed in the ninth position in the Western Conference standings. Thus, they will need to turn the tables in the coming matches if they have to keep their playoff hopes alive. Kerr will want a more collective effort from his team and they will need to support Stephen Curry.
The Golden State Warriors will have their work cut out in the next match as they will lock horns against the second-placed Phoenix Suns on Friday.
