Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has heaped praise on youngster Kartik Tyagi for his superb final over against Punjab Kings at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Tyagi had a difficult task of defending only four runs in the final over and he was able to nail the yorkers.
Furthermore, Tyagi got the wickets of well-settled Nicholas Pooran with a well-directed yorker and also dismissed Deepak Hooda with a wide delivery. The lanky fast bowler consistently bowled above 140 kmph in the final over and conceded only one run to turn the match on its head.
Rajasthan Royals were able to snatch a win from the jaws of defeat and Tyagi played a key role in the final over.
Irfan Pathan told Star Sports, “Kartik Tyagi is a youngster, he is not an experienced player. He is a young uncapped Indian fast bowler and he comes and bowls like this, it is not easy for anyone to defend four runs.”
Pathan noted that Tyagi was not bowling to the tailenders and he was able to defend four runs while bowling to the main batsmen.
“There were good batsmen in front of him, it was not that a No.9, 10, or 11 batsman was batting, pure batsmen were playing. The Punjab Kings did make mistakes but the good areas in which Kartik Tyagi bowled will be a huge confidence booster in this boy’s career.”
Meanwhile, Tyagi had impressed while playing for India in the Under-19 World Cup in 2020. Pathan added youngster’s career should skyrocket after this performance as he would have gained a lot of confidence.
“He has come here after playing good cricket. He has represented India in under-19 cricket. There he took wickets for India and after that when he got an opportunity in the IPL, he didn’t play in the first half but to perform under pressure.”
“His career should skyrocket from here because when you win the match by bowling like that, you should not be turning and looking behind. From here, you will think only one thing, on how to get even better and when he would get to play for India.”
Rajasthan Royals will next face Delhi Capitals at Abu Dhabi on 25th September.
