Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra praised Prasidh Krishna for his impressive spell in the opening ODI against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday. The lanky pacer returned with impressive figures of 2-50 in his quota of 10 overs and played a key role in skittling out England at 258.
The Karnataka pacer accounted for Jos Buttler and Sam Curran and also bowled two maiden overs, the only one to do it in the whole match. Chopra highlighted that Krishna is not someone who has a lot of variety in his arsenal.
“There is a massive difference between the T20 and ODI formats. A slight help is also left on the pitch. There are two new balls as well. So they keep moving for a long time, and since you have only 10 wickets and you have to play 50 overs, and the batters become slightly conservative, you can consistently bowl at one spot for a long time. So multiple things go in a bowler’s favor,” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“In the ODI format, even if you have a bad start, you can always make a comeback. Prasidh has done well in T20s. He has won the Purple Cap in the IPL, but I feel he is a long-format bowler. He will do well if you play him in Tests and ODIs. That is where he is actually at his best. He is not someone who has a lot of variety,” he added.
The renowned commentator highlighted that Krishna’s consistently helps him reap rewards in longer formats.
“He doesn’t show too much confidence in variations. He relies on consistency, and ODIs and Tests are the two formats for consistency. So, the world changes as soon as the format changes, and that’s what has happened with Prasidh Krishna as well,” he observed.
The second ODI between India and England will be played at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on Thursday.
