Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron has questioned Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s tactics in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Aaron said RCB is over-reliant on the shoulders of Virat Kohli and they need other batters to step up.
However, the former RCB bowler questioned the franchise’s selection as he feels the team is not giving chances to domestic players in the final XI, whom they invested in the auction.
Meanwhile, RCB has got off to a horrid start and their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs are hanging by a thin thread. The Faf du Plessis-led team has managed a solitary win in seven matches and they are at the bottom of the points table.
“If you have to be anywhere at the top of the table or the middle of the table at this point of the table, you have to have domestic players who are firing and you cannot always rely on Virat Kohli. The other guys have to step up and also all their money is sitting in the dug-out. You can’t spend that much cash on players and not have them play,” opined Aaron on Star Sports.
Kohli is the leading run-getter of the ongoing season with 372 runs in seven matches, which he has scored at an average of 74.40 and a strike rate of 149.40.
On the other hand, former Australian captain Aaron Finch said Kohli needs support from other RCB batters in the ongoing season.
“I think the fact that he’s getting runs and RCB are still not making it is a positive sign in one degree. It’s that when Virat is playing well, that genuinely carries the rest of the players with him. They just need to find a partnership with him, they need to find an explosive middle-order player who is in form.”
Kohli was dismissed after scoring 18 runs against KKR at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday while chasing 223. The talisman was livid after the umpire’s decision of high-waist no-ball not going his way.
