BAN vs IND 2022: It’s very frustrating – Bangladesh batting coach Jamie Siddons on batters’ show

Bangladesh batting coach Jamie Siddons was frustrated after his team was skittled out for 227 runs in the first innings of the second Test match against India at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and decided to bat first but the home team could not get a big score o the board.

Apart from Mominul Haque, who scored 84 runs, no other batter could even go past the 30-run mark. Mushfiqur Rahim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Litton Das – all got off to starts but failed to convert them into substantial scores.

Siddons revealed that the talk has been to convert the starts and show application in the middle but it was lacking from his batters. In fact, the Tigers were 172-4 but lost their last six wickets for only 55 runs as they collapsed like a pack of cards.

“It is very frustrating,” Bangladesh batting coach Jamie Siddons said in the press conference after the day’s play.

“We work hard. We talk about when you’re in, you need to stay in. You have to make sure of a big score when you get a start,” he further added.

“People made mental errors again when they were set. The ball was spinning but the pace bowlers weren’t getting off a great deal. To let Umesh get four wickets was very disappointing,” Siddons explained.

Siddons rued the fact the team could not make most of their opportunities to set up a good score on the board.

“If they can do it to get 28, they have to keep doing it for another 28,” Siddons said. “We seem to change our game, go up a gear. Shakib walks down the wicket, Liton tries to hit one a little bit harder, Mehidy plays a rash shot. They walk off shaking their head, (thinking) ‘Why did I do that?’ But they have to take that responsibility.”

“They have to stay in the same gear for six hours. We talk about batting till the end of the day and punching gloves and walking off with your teammate. Not getting a flashy 28 or 30. It keeps happening,” he further aded.

The batting coach showered praise on Mominul Haque, who showed all the resistance and made a fine return to the team.

“Mominul had a more positive approach rather than thinking he was going to get bad balls,” Siddons said. “He was thinking I am going to score today. You have a better chance of having success when you do that.”

India are 86-3 at the Lunch break on the second day and they trail by 141 runs.
