India’s domestic giant Wasim Jaffer believes if the former skipper MS Dhoni is fit and in form, then we cannot look beyond him. Dhoni last played his International match when India lost the semi-final clash against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup. Subsequently, the talisman decided to take a break from the game and made himself unavailable for national selection.
MS Dhoni has been instrumental in the success of the team over the years and there is no doubt that his absence has been dearly missed. Dhoni has the skills to keep calm even in the tumultuous of conditions and has often taken the sinking ship safely to its moorings.
Ergo, Dhoni was able to finish the close matches in his illustrious career and the same has been missing from the Indian team as there is a lack of experience.
Wasim Jaffer, who recently called time on his magnificent career of 24 years, believes Dhoni is an asset to Indian team while standing behind the stumps.
Jaffer added that Dhoni’s inclusion will help take the pressure off KL Rahul and the team can even accommodate Rishabh Pant if they want a southpaw in the batting order.
“If Dhoni is fit and in form I think we can’t look beyond him as he’ll be an asset behind the stumps and also lower down the order. It’ll take the pressure of keeping off Rahul and India can play Pant as a batsman too if they want a lefty,” Jaffer tweeted.
MS Dhoni has been a huge player for the Indian team and he has checked the right boxes in his career. India hasn’t been able to finish the close matches of late and that is where the former skipper can still come in handy.
However, Dhoni will need to once again prove that he is good enough to get back into the team. He has been out of action and he will need to get back amongst the runs to make a comeback into national colours.
