IND vs AFG 2024: Not an easy task at all, the graduation from domestic to international cricket – Saba Karim lauds Rinku Singh

Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Saba Karim hailed Rinku Singh for his swift graduation from the domestic circuit to international cricket. Karim said it is not an easy task at all to adjust to International cricket but Singh has been successfully able to do that.

The left-hander has scored 262 runs in 12 T20I matches at an average of 65.5 and an impressive strike rate of 180.69. Thus, Singh has been playing the finisher role with great success since he made his debut against Ireland in 2023. Furthermore, Singh has scored 55 runs in two ODI matches so far.

“Not an easy task at all, the graduation from domestic to international cricket. To adapt to these conditions is not so easy. All of us who made that transition from domestic to international cricket, be it as a batter or as a bowler, have had some difficulties,” Saba Karim said while talking to Sports18.

The former Indian selector lauded Rinku Singh’s finishing skills and feels it holds him and the team in a good state.

“The best part of Rinku Singh is the way he has matured in his progress at the international level. The kind of innings he has played, and the way he has been able to finish matches for India even while setting a target, all that bodes very well for him and the Indian side,” Saba elaborated.

Karim reckons India can also promote Rinku Singh up in the batting order as he has the skills to bat anywhere in the line-up.

“He is not only capable of batting at No. 6 in T20Is but you can also throw him up the order because he is capable of playing a very steady innings and then blossoming. So I think he gives so many options to the Indian team with the way he has progressed at the international level,” he reasoned.

Karim also showered praise on Rinku Singh’s fielding, which is his other asset.

“On top of that, he is a gun fielder in the outfield and I like his dedication. He came back from South Africa and went and played a Ranji Trophy game for UP, where he scored 90-odd (92),” Saba said.

Rinku Singh will be seen in action in the first T20I against Afghanistan at Mohali on Thursday.
