Indian opener Shubman Gill feels India has gained impetus at the right time ahead of the all-important World Cup. After winning the Asia Cup, India took an impregnable lead of 2-0 in the three-match ODI series against Australia.
India defeated Australia in the second ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore by 99 runs (DLS method) on Sunday. Team India has won six out of the last seven matches and they will look to take the same winning impetus in the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill continued his rich vein of form as he scored a fine knock of 104 runs. Gill also added a brilliant alliance of 200 runs with Shreyas Iyer, who bagged his chance as he scored a brilliant knock of 105 runs.
“Yeah it feels good. We are satisfied as a team. We have the momentum at the right time,” Gill said after the match.
Gill got off to a slow start but he was able to change gears after getting settled at the crease.
“It depends on the situation, there is definitely some confidence that I can cover up later, I have that confidence because I am scoring at the moment. Yeah, definitely with the way KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav played, they kept the momentum going. 400 on any ground is tough to chase, and the bowlers did the task,” Shubman said.
Gill scored six fours and four sixes in his fine knock and he will look to continue the good show in the upcoming ODI showpiece. The right-hander has been shining like a bright star and he is going to hold the key along with Rohit Sharma at the top of the order.
India will next play Australia on 27 September, Wednesday in the third ODI of the series.
