It is reported that two players out of Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya, and Prasidh Krishna could make their ODI debut in the first ODI against England.
All of these players got their maiden ODI call-up after impressive performances in the Vijay Hazare trophy.
Suryakumar Yadav made an impressive T20I debut as he smashed 57 runs from 31 balls in his debut innings. Yadav then scored a quickfire knock of 32 runs off just 17 balls in the final T20I against England. The right-hander amassed 332 runs in the five matches he played in the Vijay Hazare trophy, at an impressive average of 66.40 and an excellent strike rate of 151.59.
Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna scalped 14 wickets in seven matches at an average of 22.21 and bowled at the top of his game in the Vijay Hazare trophy while playing for Karnataka.
On the other hand, Krunal Pandya also came up with a scintillating performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The southpaw scored 388 runs in five matches at a staggering average of 129.33 and a blistering strike rate of 117.93.
The Indian skipper Virat Kohli stated that he wants to see how the young players will fare in the ODI series and he wants to give them their deserved opportunities.
Kohli said in the pre-match press conference, “It’ll be interesting because there are a few youngsters finding an opportunity in the one-day set-up for the first time. I’m very keen to see how they go about executing their skills against a strong England side.”
It will be interesting to note how India will give the rookie players their chances. It might be difficult for the team management to slot in Suryakumar Yadav in the middle-order as Shreyas Iyer has done a fine job while batting at number four.
However, in the absence of players like Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, there could be a good chance that Prasidh Krishna and Krunal Pandya can get their opportunities.
The first ODI will take place today at the Mahrashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune behind closed doors.
