IND vs NZ 2023: He has worked religiously in the nets, working on the outswinger – Paras Mhambrey on Mohammed Siraj

India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has showered praise on Mohammed Siraj for working hard in the net. Mhambrey revealed Siraj has been working on his outswinger and he has been reaping rewards for the same.

Siraj has taken giant strides in the recent past in his ODI career and he has done a fine job with the new ball. The fast bowler from Hyderabad has the ability to swing the ball both ways and he has developed his outswingers.

The fast bowler took four wickets in the third ODI against Sri Lanka and then continued his good show in the first game against New Zealand. Siraj returned with impressive figures of 4-46 in his quota of 10 overs when the Kiwis went on to score a massive score of 337.

Siraj then had 1-10 in the six overs he bowled in the second ODI against the Blackcaps. Since the start of 2022, he has picked 38 wickets in 20 ODI matches. However, the fast bowler was rested for the third game against the visitors.

Paras Mhambrey said in the pre-match press conference, “We had a conversation with Siraj in England, during the Test series and the white-ball series that we had. We sat down and discussed what are the other kind of things that we need to add, specifically to be successful with the white-ball as well. One of the points which came up was the outswinger, which he had earlier, but he lost it a little but while trying to work on other aspects, working on the cross seam and other kind of stuff.”

Mhambrey revealed that Siraj needs to challenge the outer edge of the batters’ bat in order to improve his outswingers.

“We discussed that we need to challenge the outer edge of the right-handed batter, to pick up more wickets. I’m very happy to see that he has transformed and worked on it, the credit should be given to him. He has worked religiously in the nets, working on the outswinger and which is paying dividends right now.”

On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav has also bounced back into form. Yadav has changed his angle to the crease and Mhambrey feels it helps the wrist spinner to put more revs on the ball and hence get more from the pitch.

“With Kuldeep, we spoke about the angle with which he approaches the crease. I thought initially he was a bit too wide of the crease. The change in the angle allows a bit more revs to the ball and the speed as well for him.”
