Former Indian legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar believes Team India should invest in the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar, and Prasidh Krishna.
The trio had received their chance in the third ODI against South Africa and all of them did a decent job.
Deepak Chahar returned with impressive figures of 2-53 as he provided two crucial wickets in the first 15 overs. Furthermore, India was on the ropes in the run-chase of 288 however Chahar was able to keep the team in the contest as he scored a quickfire knock of 34-ball 54. However, he could not take his team over the line as he was dismissed in the 48th over by Lungisani Ngidi.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav was able to hit the ground running as he scored a free-flowing knock of 39 runs. However, he could not convert his start into a substantial score.
Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna, who can trouble the opposition with extra bounce and pace, scalped three wickets and conceded 59 runs in his 9.5 overs. Thus, the trio was able to deliver the goods for the team.
“Definitely. They have only enhanced their claims by the way they played,” Gavaskar said.
“Yes, it was a dead rubber but for them it was not. Because for them it was an opportunity to show what they are capable of. And they knew South Africa would be very keen to have a complete sweep of the series. So that the pressure would be on them. And they came through very well. There is no question about it, which is the reason you need to invest in them more.”
“Give them the feeling that now they should get more opportunities. That now they belong in the team than being made to sit in the dugout. So definitely these three names ones that you need to look at for the future,” added Gavaskar.
Deepak Chahar, Prasidh Krishna, and Suryakumar Yadav have all shown the right skills and the team’s management will look to give them more chances in the upcoming games. The trio has also been named in India’s limited-overs squad for the series against West Indies.
The first ODI between India and West Indies will be played on 6th February.
