Former Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble said India would want Virat Kohli to continue Indian Premier League 2024 form in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Kohli continued his rich form against Punjab Kings as he scored a match-winning knock of 92 runs off just 47 balls at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium, Dharamsala on Thursday.
The talisman scored seven fours and six maximums in his blistering knock as he played an instrumental role in helping RCB post 241 runs on the board. Kohli has amassed 634 runs in 12 matches at an average of 70.44 and a strike rate of 153.51 in the ongoing IPL 2024 and he is the top run-getter of the tournament.
“Yeah, absolutely. He’s been in outstanding form. He had a bit of a break coming into the IPL, and then he’s just been relentless in his pursuit of excellence. And you could see that. I mean, he’s at the top of the table there with 634 runs, and I’m sure RCB would want him to win the next two games, and hopefully, qualify. But, you know, for India’s sake, you would want this form to continue in the World Cup as well,” said Kumble on JioCinema.
Kohli also mimicked Rilee Rossouw’s rifle celebration and former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson said that the RCB talisman is involved in every moment of the game.
“He’s engaged in every single moment of every game and nothing like that Rossouw had on display. And he made sure that he let Rossouw know exactly back at you. And and it was a critical time as well.”
“Kohli’s engaged in every single ball of every game, and he doesn’t miss a thing. And he certainly didn’t miss Rossouw’s celebration for his 50,” said Watson.
Kohli also inflicted Shashank Singh’s run-out with a brilliant display of fielding. RCB will next take on Delhi Capitals at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday.
