The Senior Selection Committee, led by former pacer Ajit Agarkar, has named India’s squad for the T20 World Cup. As reported earlier, Rohit Sharma will lead the team in the upcoming T20I showpiece, with Hardik Pandya being named his deputy.
In-form Virat Kohli also makes the cut whereas Yashasi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant also made the team’s 15. Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, who has been in terrific form in the ongoing IPL 2024, has also been included in the World Cup squad.
Chennai Super Kings’ hard-hitter Shivam Dube also gets a place whereas Yuzvendra Chahal makes a comeback in the Indian team. Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav are the other three spinners in the squad. Jasprit Bumrah will be the team’s pack leader and he will have the support of pacers like Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj.
Meanwhile, Pant has scored 398 runs in 11 matches of IPL 2024, Samson has amassed 385 runs in nine games while Dube has smashed 350 runs in nine games.
Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan have been named as reserves in the World Cup squad.
Meanwhile, India will kick start their World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, followed by the marquee clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 09, 2024 at the same venue. India will then play against the USA and Canada on June 12 and 15 respectively.
