IPL 2022: Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult gave a masterclass on how the SRH bowlers needed to bowl – Wasim Jaffer

Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer heaped praise on Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult for their opening burst against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their team’s first match of IPL 2022 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Tuesday.

Rajasthan Royals posted a par score of 210 runs after contributions from Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal, and Shimron Hetmyer. Subsequently, Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna troubled the opposition’s top order with their swing and bounce respectively.

Krishna accounted for Kane Williamson and Rahul Tripathi in his first two overs as he bowled in the right areas. Trent Boult kept beating the batters and he was finally rewarded in his third over as he plumbed Nicholas Pooran in front of the wickets.

SRH were reduced to 14-3 in the powerplay overs, which is their lowest ever score in the first six overs in the IPL. Boult and Krishna were right on the money and consistently troubled SRH’s batters.

On the other hand, SRH bowlers conceded 58 runs in the powerplay overs. Jaffer reckons Krishna and Boult gave a masterclass on how the SRH bowlers needed to bowl.

Jaffer said on ESPN Cricinfo: “Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult gave a masterclass on how the SRH bowlers needed to bowl. They needed to bowl at the top of the off, hitting the hard length as there was enough help off the pitch. But the Hyderabad bowlers couldn’t do that. Washington Sundar didn’t bowl much in the powerplay, which he normally does. They need to reshuffle and get that combination right.”

Meanwhile, former SRH all-rounder Ben Cutting believes the Orange Army bowlers failed to hit the right areas in the powerplay overs.

He said, “The ball was swinging around and there was enough bounce and seam if you put the new ball in the right areas. But that’s what SRH failed to do when they bowled. That’s why they went for 58 runs off their 6 overs. Whereas RR picked up a handful of wickets in the powerplay.”

Rajasthan Royals will next lock horns against Mumbai Indians at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Saturday.
