Royal Challengers Bangalore Director of Cricket Mike Hesson believes they have got set things in place for the next three years with Faf du Plessis at the helm of leadership.
Faf was roped in by RCB for INR 7 crores in IPL mega auction 2022 and he was named as captain after Virat Kohli decided to relinquish his captaincy duties.
Faf has been able to lead from the front in the ongoing season of the Tata IPL. RCB went on to win eight matches out of the 14 they played in the league stage to qualify for the playoff stages. The right-hander has scored 443 runs in 14 matches in the ongoing season at an average of 34.08 and a blistering strike rate of 130.67.
RCB did have the rub of the green on their side as MI was able to beat DC and it helped the Bangalore franchise in making it to the last four. Faf has played a key role in the success of the team both as a leader as well as a batter.
“Faf has been great. Once we decided and made him aware of that (captaincy), it was all about him actually coming in and contributing to the culture. For me, culture happens first. It is something quite hard to define. It is more about how you react under pressure, towards your teammates and Faf is big on that. He is big on creating a legacy as well. We actually have got set things in place for the next three years and hopefully beyond. He also has the capability of bringing people along for a ride, which I think is really important,” said Hesson in a video posted by RCB on Twitter.
RCB will look to bring their best in the playoff stages and it will be important for them that their big players fire at all cylinders for them. Virat Kohli had played a fine knock of 73 runs off just 54 balls in the last league stage match against table-toppers Gujarat Titans. Furthermore, Faf du Plessis had also given a good start whereas Glenn Maxwell had provided the finishing touches for RCB against GT.
Moreover, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, and Wanindu Hasaranga have been superb for RCB with the ball and they will look to continue the good show.
RCB will face LSG in the Eliminator at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Wednesday.
