IPL 2021: We needed this win badly after a couple of losses – Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma stated that his team needed the win against Rajasthan Royals badly as they had lost their last two matches.

The defending champions won by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Thursday after they chased down 172 runs with ease.

After electing to field first, Mumbai Indians did a fine job in restricting Rajasthan Royals to an under par score of 171 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was once again right on the money in his spell as he conceded only 15 runs in his four overs and also scalped a wicket of Shivam Dube. Rahul Chahar also did a fine job as he returned with figures of 2-33 in his quota of four overs.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians opener Quinton de Kock got back into form as he scored a unbeaten knock of 70 runs off just 50 balls to help his team get over the line. The southpaw timed the ball to perfection as he looked at his best for the first time in the ongoing season. Furthermore, Krunal Pandya scored 39 runs off 26 balls to contribute to the team’s win.

Rohit Sharma stated it was a clinical performance from his team and it was good to see a collective effort from the group. The MI skipper added that the players took the responsibility on their shoulders and came up with a fine performance. Rohit feels the team didn’t adapt well to the conditions in Chennai but knew that they will bounce back on better pitches

Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation, “Absolutely brilliant, we needed this win badly after a couple of losses, we did pretty much everything right, from ball one, very clinical towards the end as well. This is something that was required, we took the responsibility, good to see a complete team effort. We were positive about coming to Delhi, knew this was a good pitch, not like Chennai (laughs), we have played a lot of games and we do understand the conditions here. A good pitch, small boundaries, you always back yourself to do well , but having said that the bowlers did the job for us, came back pretty well in the death overs, giving 50 odd runs with 7 wickets in hand was a great effort. Playing the conditions well is important, we didn’t adapt well in Chennai, but we knew once that leg ended, we were going to play on good pitches”.

Mumbai Indians is a quality side and they will look to continue the winning momentum. The reigning champions will next face Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on 1st of May.
