Former legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara has replaced Tom Moody as the SunRisers Hyderabad’s head coach for the upcoming season of the Tata Indian Premier League. As a strategic advisory and batting consultant, Lara was part of the SRH support staff in the previous season of the league.
This will be the first time Lara will take over the reins of head coach for a T20 team. It has been reported that Tom Moody and SRH mutually agreed to part ways. Moody was recently appointed director of cricket at Desert Vipers, one of the six franchises in the ILT20.
Meanwhile, Moody made a return to SRH as director of cricket in 2021 when Trevor Bayliss was the team’s head coach. However, the Orange Army had a pathetic season as they could only manage three wins in that edition.
Moody was then appointed as the team’s head coach in 2022 for the second time but the Kane Williamson-led finished in eighth place with six wins and eight losses. SRH had won five matches in a row but then they went on to lose five matches on the trot to veer off the track.
“It’s been a great journey and I wish them well,” Moody told Cricbuzz confirming the parting of ways.
“As his term with us draws to an end, we would like to thank Tom for his contributions to SRH. It has been a much-cherished journey over the years, and we wish him the very best for future endeavors,” SRH said in a statement released through their verified social media handle.
Meanwhile, SRH hasn’t been at its best in the last two seasons as they have managed only nine wins in 28 matches. Thus, Brian Lara will look to help the team in turning the tables.
On the other hand, Anil Kumble was also removed as Punjab Kings’ head coach, and Trevor Bayliss is set to become the team’s new head coach.
