Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa reckons Shubman Gill has the potential to become someone as big as Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Gill has already impressed in his young career and many have likened him to the greats of the game.
The youngster has definitely shown the skills to go a long way in his career and he is ticking the right boxes. Gill has been in prolific form in 2023 and everything he touches turns to gold.
The 23-year-old is currently the second-highest run-getter in the ongoing IPL 2023 as he has scored 576 runs in 13 matches at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 146.19.
Ergo, Gill has once again played an instrumental role in the success of Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2023 and has helped his team in reaching the playoff stages.
On the other hand, Uthappa, who was known for his flamboyant game, added Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two next superstars of Indian cricket. Jaiswal has been in sublime form in the ongoing IPL 2023 as he has scored 575 runs in 13 matches at an average of 47.92 and a strike rate of 166.18 and he is currently the third-highest run-getter of the season.
Robin Uthappa said on Jio Cinema, “I definitely see him having the potential of becoming someone as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar. I certainly think he has got the stuff. He is a phenomenal player who is in exceptional form and is playing some exceptional cricket at the moment. I feel and believe personally that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two next big things of Indian cricket.”
Uthappa feels the selectors should back the experienced players for the upcoming ODI World Cup as making wholesale changes to the squad based on IPL performances will not be wise.
“From my experience with the Indian team, I feel they will continue with the experienced players because making wholesale changes this close to the World Cup is not wise. Having said that, I feel post the World Cup we might see wholesale changes.
“Yes, there are a few injury concerns that needs to be addressed. We are already missing Bumrah and I hope he gets fit before the World Cup. Then you have KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant out and these are areas of concern I feel. I hope we put out a fit team and give ourselves the best chance to win the World Cup.”
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans will play their last league stage match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday.
