Gujarat Titans’ Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki showered praise on Shubman Gill after the reigning champions qualified for the IPL 2023 final by beating Mumbai Indians by 62 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Friday.
Gill smashed a blistering knock of 129 runs off just 60 balls in the all-important match. The right-hander batted at the top of his game and scored seven fours and 10 maximums in his fine knock. When Gill was dismissed, GT score read a formidable 192-2 after 16.5 overs. Thus, he played a key role in helping his team post a massive total of 233 runs on the board.
Gill has been batting at his absolute best and he has played a key role in taking his team to the final. The 23-year-old has provided solid starts at the top of the order for GT along with Wriddhiman Saha.
Gill is the leading run-getter of IPL 2023 with 851 runs in 16 matches at a splendid average of 60.79 and a blistering strike rate of 156.43, including three centuries.
“Shubman has played a significant role with the lion’s share of overs, we are pleased with his contributions. However, it’s important to remember that, at any given time, only two players can be at the crease. If the two openers occupy the entirety of the 20 overs, we are absolutely fine with that,” Solanki said during the press conference ahead of the final.
“When it comes to batting, Shubman Gill is a brilliant technician. For a young man, he has already displayed remarkable skill and finesse in his approach. If you are looking to emulate someone in the game, he would certainly be one of the examples you would want to follow.
Gill has been batting like a dream in 2023 as he has checked the right boxes in his young career. The right-hander will look to carry the good show in World Test Championship final against Australia, which will take place at the Oval on June 7.
