Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach Ajit Agarkar has said that they will try to finish their disappointing season on a high. DC will face Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Wednesday night in their penultimate match of the season.
The David Warner-led team is lingering at the bottom of the points table with four wins in 12 matches and they will want to win their last two matches to end the season on a high and avoid the cellar-dwellers tag of the tournament.
Delhi’s batting has been their Achilles Heel in the ongoing season and their batters have failed to deliver. In their previous match against PBKS, DC got off to a good start but once again their middle order succumbed to pressure. DC could only manage 136 runs against PBKS after Prabhsimran Singh’s century helped the Mohali-based franchise post 167 runs on the board.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Ajit Agarkar said, “We won’t change our approach and we will try to finish as high as possible on the points table. We lost too many wickets in a cluster in the last game. We got off to a good start, but we couldn’t finish the match. We’ll look to improve upon this aspect of our batting in our next two games.”
Former Indian fast bowler is hopeful of a good track in Dharamshala and expects a better batting performance from his batters.
“Dharamsala is a spectacular venue. Hopefully, we’ll get a good batting track which will give the batters a chance to play a bit more freely.”
On the other hand, Agarkar showered praise on Ishant Sharma, who has done a spectacular job for the team in the ongoing season. In seven matches, the lanky pacer has scalped eight wickets at an average of 21.25 and an economy rate of 7.73.
“Ishant has been really good around the group. The younger bowlers can learn from the way he has conducted himself and prepared for games. He’s been terrific for us this season.”
Punjab Kings will take on Delhi Capitals in the 64th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Wednesday.
