Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant showered praise on Jake Fraser-McGurk after their 10-run win against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Saturday. The Australian youngster has impressed since he has made his IPL debut for the Capitals.
The right-hander batted at his absolute best against the five-time champions and showed his talent. McGurk was able to get off the blocks in the jiffy, taking Luke Wood to 19 runs in the opening over of the innings after Pandya decided to bowl first.
The 22-year-old completed his fifty off just 15 balls and helped DC put 92 runs on the board in the Powerplay overs. The youngster scored a blistering knock of 84 runs off just 27 balls with the help of 11 fours and six sixes as he scored his runs at a strike rate of 311.11.
Jake added 114 runs for the opening alliance with Abishek Porel as the former did the lion’s share of the scoring.
Rishabh Pant said in the post-match presentation, “He (Fraser-McGurk) has been amazing since the first day and this is what you want from a younger player, he’s getting better and better with each game. The chances (of making it to the playoffs) are increasing day by day, but we are taking it one game at a time.”
McGurk has scored 247 runs in five matches of IPL 2024 at an average of 49.40 and a strike rate of 237.40, which is the best for any batter who has scored more than 100 runs in the tournament.
Pant added that the team was happy to put 257 runs on the board and also shed on him coming up to the stumps for Mukesh Kumar.
Pant concluded, “We were pretty happy with 250 on the board but with impact sub it is getting difficult each and every day. Definitely I can do that (come up to the stumps) but the bowler also should be confident, but with a batter like David was walking down and today it worked.”
