Sunrisers Hyderabad will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday. The Orange Army had finished the previous season as cellar-dwellers of the tournament, managing only four wins in 14 matches and they will look to turn the tables in the upcoming season.
SRH has appointed Pat Cummins, who was bought for a huge amount of INR 20.50 crores in the IPL 2024 auction, as their new captain. Cummins will take back the captaincy baton from Aiden Markram, who led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back titles in SA20 but was not backed by the management.
Strengths: SRH has a quality batting unit as they have some solid foreign batters. They have Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, and Glenn Phillips and they all can play aggressively from the get-go. Moreover, they have a decent fast-bowling attack in Pat Cummins, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, and T Natarajan. However, with Pat Cummins as captain, they will scratch their heads in picking the other three foreign players.
They also have a decent spin bowling attack in Wanindu Hasaranga, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Washington Sundar.
Weaknesses: SRH doesn’t have a lot of experience in their Indian batting line-up as they have batters like Mayank Aggarwal, Rahul Tripathi, and Abhishek Sharma.
SRH Probable XI: Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Rahul Tripathi, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins (c), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, Umran Malik.
