Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis said they have made some real progress in the last few matches after their nine-wicket win against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday.
RCB chased down the target of 201 runs off just 16 overs with Will Jacks top-scoring with an unbeaten 100 off 41 balls. RCB’s veteran batter Virat Kohli also scored a crucial knock of 70 runs off just 44 balls and added 166 runs with Jacks.
Meanwhile, Faf is really pleased to note that the bowlers have improved their performances and it has played a key role in their success in the last couple of games. The South African said the team is growing in confidence and they will look to carry the good show.
RCB did a decent job in restricting GT to 200 after Faf won the toss and decided to bowl first on a batting-friendly pitch.
Faf said in the post-match presentation, “I thought it was a really good wicket. When we bowled first, we felt like it certainly was a score that we could chase, obviously not 16 overs. It feels like we’ve made some real progress in both departments. We were way off in the beginning of the tournament, but it feels like there’s confidence in the group and you can see that in both bowling and batting.”
He added, “The guys are doing a really good job. At the moment and the way T20 game is … when you look at the score and you think, “bowlers, what are you doing?” But it’s not actually the case. The game has changed so much. Especially that game against Kolkata, for me was probably a line-in-the-sand moment for us as a team where the score was 220 but I felt like that’s the first time we bowled to what we wanted to bowl this season. The bowlers took some great confidence from that night and you can see the following performance has been really good. We are doing the basics much better now.”
RCB has won their last two matches and they will look to carry the good form. RCB will once again take on GT at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday.
