Kerala Blasters FC head coach Ivan Vukomanovic feels their first-half performance was one of their best after their 2-1 win against Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi on Tuesday. The Tuskers had lost their previous match against East Bengal FC and it was a good comeback from them.
The visitors’ talisman El Khayati continued his good show in the tournament as he scored as early as the second minute. However, Kerala Blasters FC got back into the contest their linchpin Adrian Luna found the back of the net in the 38th minute.
Subsequently, Rahul Kannoly Praveen scored in the 64th minute to put his team in front after an assist from Luna. The Men in Yellow took a total of four shots on target throughout the whole match.
“This was not the first time we had fallen behind in the league this season, especially at home. I’m really grateful and happy to see this kind of response from the players,” said the Serbian at the post-match press conference.
“Even though we conceded the goal in the opening minutes, which was completely unacceptable, we played very well in the first half. One of the best first-half performances we have seen this season,” he added.
Ivan was delighted with the performance of his defenders at the fag end of the match as they were able to keep the opposition at bay.
“After we scored the second goal, we knew we have to be more organized. When you defend in the final minutes, it’s all about character and a winning mentality. You can’t afford to give space to your opponents,” he said.
Kerala Blasters are currently in third position with 10 wins in 17 matches and a total of 31 points. Vukomanovic added they will go into the last three games with a positive attitude.
“After so many weeks it’s a small part of the relief, staying in the third spot with 31 points. We will now go into the final three games with a positive mindset,” stated Vukomanovic.
Kerala Blasters will next face Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday.
