Sri Lanka’s wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Perera has been ruled out of the upcoming limited overs series against India due to an injury. Perera suffered a right shoulder sprain during training, Sri Lanka cricket confirmed on Friday. Earlier it was reported that Perera had suffered the injury on the tour of England but continued to play as there were no replacements.
Perera is one of Sri Lanka’s best batsmen and had scored a fifty for the team on the unforgettable tour of England, where Sri Lanka lost all the five matches of the limited overs series. Perera was expected to earlier lead Sri Lanka but it has been reported that Dasun Shanaka will lead the team in the upcoming series against India.
Furthermore, Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka are also suspended due to bio-bubble breach. Thus, it will be a depleted Sri Lankan team without the main players as Angelo Mathews has also decided to pull out of the series due to personal reasons amid the contract controversy.
On the other hand, fast bowler Binura Fernando has also been ruled out due to sprained ankle, which he suffered while training on Thursday. Fernando has suffered a literal ligament sprain and he will miss the ODI series against India.
Interestingly, Sri Lanka cricket is yet to announce their squad for the series against India. The first ODI will be played at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo on 18th July. After the three-match ODI series, the first T20I will be played at the same venue on 25th July.
