Many cricket experts speculate that the upcoming season of IPL 2023 could be MS Dhoni’s last dance in the tournament. However, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma thinks otherwise and feels Dhoni, 41, is fit enough to play for two-three years.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja had led Chennai Super Kings in the first half of the previous season but he could not deliver as a leader and Dhoni had to take leadership onus on his shoulders once again. CSK could only manage four wins in 14 matches in the last edition and finished in ninth place in the standings. Thus, they will be looking to turn the corner in the forthcoming season.
Dhoni was recently seen timing the ball to perfection in CSK’s practice sessions and he was hitting the ball big. Furthermore, as always, Dhoni looked fit as a fiddle in the practice sessions.
“I’ve been hearing for the last 2-3 years that this is going to be MS Dhoni’s last season. I think he is fit enough to play a few more seasons,” Rohit said in MI’s pre-season press conference.
Dhoni is well known for his sangfroid captaincy and he will once again look to get the best out of his players in the upcoming season. The veteran has all the experience under his belt and he has played an instrumental role in the success of the franchise.
The former Indian skipper has amassed 4978 runs in 234 IPL matches at an average of 39.2 and a strike rate of 135.2. Dhoni has played the role of a finisher, wicketkeeper, and captain with great success in the IPL. The experienced campaigner has led CSK to four titles under his helm.
Chennai Super Kings will kick off their Indian Premier League 2023 show against defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 31st March.
