Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan has been in sublime form in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2022. Khan scored a fine knock of 91 runs off just 42 balls against Multan Sultans in the eighth match of the tournament while batting at number four. However, his efforts had gone in vain as United lost that game by 20 runs.
Similarly, the leg-spinner once again delivered the goods for his team, this time with the ball against Quetta Gladiators. Islamabad United posted an above-par score of 229 runs against the Gladiators after Paul Stirling, Azam Khan, and Colin Munro scored quickfire fifties.
Khan scalped five wickets and conceded only 28 runs in his quota of four overs to help his team skittle out the opposition at 186 runs and win by a massive margin of 43 runs at the National Stadium, Karachi on Thursday. ISU captain was delighted with his team’s performance and said he wants to keep leading from the front.
Khan heaped praise on wicket-keeper batter Azam Khan, who scored a blistering knock of 65 runs off just 35 balls with the help of two fours and six sixes. Furthermore, Colin Munro scored a fine knock of 39-ball 72 whereas opener Paul Stirling smashed 58 runs off just 28 balls.
Khan said in the post-match presentation, “Even during wins, there’s something you lack in. We back each other. We’re struggling a bit in death overs. Different pressure in a new franchise. The way Azam is playing, the effort he’s putting that’s what you want as a captain. Very happy with my performance. Want to lead from the front as a captain. Will try to continue this. In any format, catches win matches. I’m known as a good fielder in Pakistan, want my team to be in the same mould”.
This was Islamabad United’ second win of the season and they will look to continue the good show in the upcoming matches. United currently has four points under their bag and they are placed in the second position in the points table.
Islamabad United will next face Lahore Qalandars at the same venue on Sunday.
