PSL 2022: If we had taken our catches, we could have won the game – Shaheen Shah Afridi

Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi admitted that they could have won the game against Peshawar Zalmi at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore in the 30th match of the ongoing Pakistan Super League on Monday if they had taken their catches.

Qalandars were sloppy in the field and could not grab their chances.

Kamran Ghulam dropped a sitter in the second over at point as he gave Hazratullah Zazai a reprieve. Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi posted a fighting score of 158 runs after Wahab Riaz won the toss and decided to bat first.

Lahore Qalandars also scored 158 runs after a fine cameo of 39 runs off just 20 balls from their skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi. In fact, 24 runs were needed in the final over however Afridi was able to score 23 runs in the last over to take the game into the Super Over.

However, Lahore Qalandars could only score five runs in the Super Over which was easily chased down by Peshawar Zalmi. PZ captain Wahab Riaz bowled a fine Super Over for his team as he led from the front.

Shaheen Shah Afridi said in the post-match presentation, “Have been practicing my batting in the nets to ensure that I can contribute to the team with the bat if needed. Will try to improve more if possible. Talking about the match, Peshawar played really well but we weren’t good enough on the field. If we had taken our catches, we could have won the game. Hopefully, we can do well in the playoffs”.

Meanwhile, Lahore Qalandars were able to finish in second place in the points table as they had a better NRR. Shaheen Shah Afridi-led will face Multan Sultans in the first Qualifier on Wednesday at the same venue of Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

In fact, Lahore Qalandars is the only team that has beaten Multan Sultans in the ongoing season. Thus, the Qalandars will aim to come up with their best performance against the in-form Multan Sultans side.
