Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Kamran Akmal reckons Ravichandran Ashwin’s form ahead of the T20 World Cup is a positive sign for Indian cricket. Ashwin has done a decent job in the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies.
The off-spinner conceded only 26 runs in the third T20I against the Windies and played a key role in restricting the opposition at 164 runs. Ashwin has scalped three wickets in three matches in the ongoing series as he has bowled at the top of his game.
Ashwin returned with impressive figures of 2-22 in his quota of four overs in the first T20I, which India won convcinginly by 68 runs.
Meanwhile, Ashwin hasn’t been a regular part of the T20I team but he had played in the T20 World Cup 2021. The veteran off spinner had scalped six wickets in the T20I showpiece in three matches he played.
Ashwin has all the experience under his belt and he can make the most of it in crunch situations. Furthermore, the right-hander has the skills to contribute with the bat while batting in the lower order.
“Ravichandran Ashwin is a proven campaigner and his form ahead of the T20 World Cup is a positive sign for Indian cricket. He impressed once again with his variations,” said Akmal on his YouTube Channel.
“He has a lot of experience playing T20 cricket and is a matchwinner. It adds to the confidence of the team when you have someone like Ravichandran Ashwin to bowl in the middle overs,” said Akmal.
On the other hand, Akmal also heaped praise on Suryakumar Yadav, who played a match-winning knock of 76 runs off just 43 balls in the third T20I against the Caribbean nation.
“Suryakumar showcased his skills and played a brilliant knock. His shot selection was very good. He would have scored a lot more runs from the same number of balls if Shreyas Iyer hadn’t got out at the other end. He slowed down a bit after Iyer’s dismissal,” said Akmal.
India has taken a 2-1 lead and they will look to seal the series in the fourth T20I while it will be a must-win game for the Nicholas Pooran-led team. The fourth T20I will be played on Saturday at Florida.
