Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid recalled his playing days at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Dravid, who recently guided India to T20 World Cup glory, attended the TNPL 2024 final between Lyca Kovai Kings and Dindigul Dragons at Chepauk on Sunday.
Dravid reminisced he played a lot of league cricket at the venue. The former India head coach also completed 10,000 Test runs at Chepauk when he scored a fine hundred against South Africa.
Dravid is the fourth-highest run-getter in Test cricket with 13288 runs in 164 matches at an average of 52.31, including 36 centuries. Only Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting have scored more runs than Dravid in the pristine form of the game. Furthermore, Dravid also amassed more than 10,000 runs in ODIs.
Dravid said on Star Sports, “Yeah, I think some of my best memories are actually playing league cricket here, playing league cricket in the old days, growing up here and the stadium used to look very different then. All concrete stands, it’s beautiful to see how it’s changed now but it was lovely to play some league cricket here.”
“Of course, I’ve played a lot of international cricket here and it’s always great to play in front of this crowd because it was one of the most supportive and appreciative crowds in the country, really knew their cricket and love their cricket.
“So, [I] love playing at Chepauk, love playing at this ground. [I] Scored my 10,000 runs at this ground, so that’s was a really nice, special moment,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dindigul Dragons defeated Lyca Kovai Kings by six wickets after they chased down 130. DD skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was awarded Player of the Match for scoring 51 off 46 balls and conceding only 13 runs in his quota of four overs.
