Suryakumar Yadav downplays India’s off-spin woes ahead of T20 World Cup 2026 final

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav downplayed India’s off-spin woes ahead of the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand. SKY said he is happy that India will be playing the T20I showpiece final against the Kiwis despite his team losing 15 wickets and having a strike rate of 120.

India’s top-order, especially left-handers, have struggled against the off-spinners in the Powerplay overs. Abhishek Sharma has been found wanting and he was once again dismissed by Will Jacks in the semifinal clash against England.

When asked what the discussion has been in the dressing room regarding India’s spin trouble, Suryakumar Yadav said in the pre-match press conference, “We have not discussed this at all. If we are playing the final after having a strike rate of 120, then there is no issue. I will be happy to continue with a strike rate of 120. The team does not have any problem.”

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 242 runs in eight matches of the tournament at an average of 34.57 and a strike rate of 137.50. Barring scoring 84 runs off just 49 balls in the opening group stage clash against the USA, SKY hasn’t been at his absolute best in the T20I showpiece.

SKY would look to lead from the front in the all-important final clash against the Blackcaps.

On the other hand, India posted a par score of 253 runs on the board against England in the semifinal clash, and they would want to carry the same batting show against the Kiwis. Sanju Samson was once again the star of the game, scoring a match-winning knock of 89 runs off just 42 balls.
