Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer believes India can definitely play three spinners in the upcoming 50-overs World Cup, which will be played in India later in the year. The Indian conditions are known to be conducive for the spinners and the spinners can make the most of their own conditions.
India has spinners like Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal in their ranks and it will be interesting to note who will be backed in the ODI showpiece.
India will definitely look to make the most of their conditions and the spinners can put the home team in front.
Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube channel, “We can definitely play three spinners in the World Cup if conditions aid the spinners. In Jadeja and Axar we will have batting depth and the third spinner can be either Kuldeep or Washington Sundar. Hardik Pandya is your all-rounder and can play the role of third pacer alongside Bumrah and Siraj. So it’s definitely a possibility.”
Meanwhile, India has a potent record in their own conditions and Jaffer feels the Indian spinners show no respite to the opposition batters. The Indian spinners are a force to reckon with in their own conditions and they have consistently breathed down the neck of the opposition batters.
“I feel our bowling has been really strong over the years, even with pacers like Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, and now with Bumrah and Shami we have taken wickets. Then of course there’s the quality of our spinners. They just don’t give any respite to the opposition. This is why I feel we are almost invincible at home. Our home domination isn’t talked about much and I feel no other country will have such a record.”
Meanwhile, India had last won a major ICC event back in 2013 when MS Dhoni led the team to glory in the Champions Trophy and Rohit Sharma and Co. will look to break that 10-year deadlock in the ODI World Cup.
India will play the second Test match against Australia in Delhi after winning in the opening game by an innings and 132 runs.
