Gouramangi Singh, who is a former Indian national team player and defender, has come forward to demand for more playing opportunities to be given to young players, especially defenders, for them to gather experience before joining the national team.
While speaking about young players, he was specific about Jamshedpur FC’s Narender Gahlot and his performances in the India Super League and junior national teams as well as ATK’s Sumit Rathi stating that though they have displayed eye-catching displays, they need consistency before being thrust into the national team mainstay.
“I like Sandesh Jhingan. He was there when I was with the national team. I think he is doing very well. Among the youngsters, I am talking about Narender Gahlot. I don’t know how many games he was involved in. But we need to give these boys more time. “Gouramangi Singh was quoted by goal.
The 34-year-old had 71 appearances for the national team between 2006 and 2013, and he last played for NEROCA FC in 2018.
Previously, he played for Pune City, Mohun Bagan, Chennaiyin, Prayag, Goa FC, Churchill Brothers Sporting Goa, amongst others. He currently works as the head coach of Bengaluru United.
India is having the opportunity recently to churn out youngsters after hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017 and also will be hosting the next edition of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, in the I-League Real Kashmir’s Co-owner Shamim Meraj has dissociated himself from the club. According to reports, Meraj was highly unsatisfied with the team’s management.
Meraj was more concerned about the style of play of the team to be more entertaining than what David Robertson was offering, but members of the club’s management had different views, being more contented with Robetson’s tactics.
