Sequel to the announcement made by Hugo Boumous stating that he has quit India Super League side FC Goa, the club on Monday stated contrary to claim that the player is still contractually signed to the club.
The 35-year-old French-born had announced via an Instagram handle of his exit from the club after spending two years with the side.
“Dear Goa, I would like to announce that my journey with @fcgoaofficial is over. It has been a hard decision to made. I’m Grateful to have represented the colours and the state of Goa across India. Thanks for all the love I received from the fans during the 2years spending with you,” he said.
However, the clubside released in a statement to clarify that the player is still contracted to Goa FC and no other club else. The club, therefore, distanced itself from the statement of the player, which contradicts its stand.
In the 2019-20 India Super League season, he contributed to 21 goals, scoring 11 and assisting 10 others.
After finishing at the top of the India Super League table last season, the team will play in the AFC Asian Champions League.
Born in Rennes France, Boumous has featured for Morocco’s U23 side. He started out his career with Laval in France before moving to Moroccan side Moghreb Teoutan where he spent two years from 2016 making 37 appearances. He also won the player of the season award last season.
Since joining Goa in 2018, he has made 42 appearances and 16 goals, and it is expected that more information will emanate from Goa FC on the player. Meanwhile, the team prepares for the 2020-21 India Super League season, especially with the potentiality of losing players like Ahmed Jahouh and Mourtada Fall.
