Hyderabad FC Faces Financial Turmoil as Key Players Depart for Mohammedan Sporting Club

Hyderabad FC, a club once celebrated for its victorious campaign in the 2021-22 Indian Super League (ISL), now finds itself in dire straits due to financial instability. The club’s inability to meet player payment obligations has triggered a mass exodus of talent, with key players Makan Winkle Chothe and Sajad Hussain Parray poised to join Mohammedan Sporting Club, ISL’s latest entrants.

The financial crisis at Hyderabad FC came to a head when the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) Players’ Status Committee convened to address the grievances of Chothe and Parray concerning unpaid dues. Notably, Hyderabad FC’s legal representatives were absent from this crucial hearing. Consequently, the committee ruled in favour of the players, granting them permission to seek new clubs without any legal encumbrances.

This development has allowed Mohammedan Sporting Club to swoop in and secure agreements with both players. The addition of Chothe and Parray is expected to significantly enhance the Kolkata-based club’s prospects as they transition into the ISL.

Last season, Mohammedan Sporting demonstrated their capabilities by winning the I-League, and they are now eager to extend their success to India’s top-flight football league.

The 21-year-old Sajad Hussain Parray played 11 matches in the ISL 2023-24 season and even managed to score a goal. His defensive abilities will be crucial for Mohammedan Sporting as they seek to solidify their backline.

Meanwhile, Makan Winkle Chothe, a versatile midfielder, played 19 matches and scored two goals last season. His adaptability, allowing him to operate effectively on both wings and as an attacking midfielder, makes him a valuable asset for his new team. Chothe’s tactical flexibility is likely to ensure a regular spot in Mohammedan Sporting’s starting lineup, providing them with diverse attacking options.

Mohammedan Sporting, buoyed by new investors, is strategically building a competitive squad to make a lasting impression in their debut ISL season. The club’s proactive approach in capitalizing on Hyderabad FC’s misfortunes exemplifies their ambition and readiness to challenge established ISL teams.

For Hyderabad FC, the situation remains precarious. The club has witnessed a steady departure of players since last season, and the ongoing financial crisis continues to hamper their ability to rebuild. This financial strain threatens to undermine the club’s competitive edge, casting doubts over their prospects for the 2024-25 season. Once heralded as ISL champions, Hyderabad FC now faces an uphill battle to regain stability and competitiveness.
