Mumbai City FC’s forward Lallianzuala Chhangte has stated that he has a lot of unfinished business at the club. Chhangte has played a key role in the Islanders’ success and he would look to keep up the good show for the club in the upcoming season.
The winger had played an instrumental role in taking the Islanders to League Shield glory in the 2022-23 season. The linchpin had scored 10 goals and provided six assists in that edition of the ISL.
After his impressive run in the previous season, the winger won the 2022–23 AIFF Men’s Player of the Year award. The 27-year-old scored 10 goals and provided six assists in the 25 matches of the 2023-24 season and thus played a key role in taking the club to glory in the tournament.
Chhangte made his ISL debut in 2016 for NorthEast United FC and since then he has taken giant strides in his career. ‘
“I strongly believe that Mumbai City FC are the right club for my future development,” Chhangte told TOI.
“Since I came here, I didn’t do bad. The club has been really good to me; the fans were amazing,” he added.
In the ISL, Chhangte has played 144 matches, where he has scored 40 goals and registered 18 assists.
The striker feels consistency is the key to success and he wants to focus on the same.
“Consistency is really important, but one of the things that makes a player inconsistent is being resilient. You can have a hard season; you might drop out of the first 11 at some point because of a change in game plan, an injury, or anything (else). Some players, not all, are just not being consistent with eating the right food, doing the right things every single day.”
“It’s not about the big things; it’s the little details that make the difference. Some players, when they are injured or drop out (of the team), they just relax. They are not themselves. They just don’t want to work anymore. When they have a great season, they are in their comfort zone. They don’t want to work even harder. This has to change,” he explained.
