The ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League came to a close with ATK Mohun Bagan beating Bengaluru FC on penalties 4-3 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa in the summit clash. There were some brilliant individual performances in the league as the players came up with the goods for their respective teams.
We take a look at the top three goal-scorers of Hero ISL 2022-23:
Diego Mauricio: Odisha FC striker Diego Mauricio created history as he came the first Juggernaut player to clinch the Golden boot award in the tournament. The Brazilian scored 12 goals in the 21 matches he played for the Kalinga Warriors. Thus, the 31-year-old played a key role in helping Odisha FC in qualifying for the playoff stages for the first time in the history of the tournament.
Mauricio was able to grab his opportunity and did a fantastic job for the team under the tutelage of Josep Gombau. He also provided four assists in the tournament.
Cleiton Silva: East Bengal FC’s Cleiton Silva made the most of his experience to deliver the goods for the club. Silva scored 12 goals in the 20 matches he played for the Kolkata-based club. The Brazilian was always present at the right time and at the right place for the Red and Gold brigade.
However, the 36-year-old efforts went in vain as East Bengal FC failed to qualify for the playoff stages. The veteran also provided one assist in the league.
Dimitri Petratos: ATK Mohun Bagan’s forward Dimitri Petratos was brilliant throughout the ninth season of the league. The Australian scored 12 goals in the 23 matches and played a key role in Mariners’ successful campaign. Moreover, he provided seven assists and thus impressed with his all-round game.
The 30-year-old from Sydney also scored a brace in the all-important final against Bengaluru FC.
