Mohun Bagan Super Giant attacking midfielder Sahal Abdul Samad is delighted to be back and help his team qualify for the ongoing Indian Super League final. Samad scored a late goal in the second-leg semifinal against Odisha FC to help his team win by 2-0 (3-2 on aggregate) at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata.
In the 14 matches of the ongoing season, the 27-year-old scored two goals and provided four assists for the Mariners. Samad said scoring goals adds a shot in his arm and he is happy to make a good return after injury.
“Goals always give great confidence to a player, especially for players like me. I’ve had to wait a long time to come back and play. It’s amazing to be back and help my team in every possible way,” Samad told indiansuperleague.com.
Samad added that the semifinal win would add a lot of belief in the team and gave his gratitude to all the fans for their unwavering support throughout the season.
“This (win) brings more belief in us. The support they gave was unbelievable. From the first minute, they were behind us, and I think that’s what we could do for them,” he said.
“One more game to go, and it will be a tough one.. But we are waiting, and we are ready to fight till the end, just like we did,” he added.
Samad dedicated the goal to his wife Reza Farhath, who has been with him through thick and thin.
“I want to dedicate this goal to my wife. I had to wait so long to get back to the ground. She is the one who was with me through all this. I want to thank her,” Samad commented.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will take on Mumbai City FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday in the ISL final.
