Our goal is to do the ISL League and Cup double this season: Mumbai City FC’s Vinit Rai

Mumbai City FC midfielder Vinit Rai has revealed that their aim is to do the ISL league and Cup double in the upcoming season. After spending 18 months with the Islanders on loan, Rai has secured his place with the squad till the end of the 2023-24 season.

Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC were on a roll in the last season as they remained unbeaten in the first 18 matches of the edition, setting up multiple records. Des Buckingham’s team was able to clinch the League Shield but lost to Bengaluru FC on penalties in the semifinals.

Rai played 11 matches for Mumbai City FC in the ISL 2022-23 season and scored two goals. The midfielder gave credit to Des Buckingham and the rest of the coaching staff for getting the best out of him.

“Des Buckingham and the entire coaching staff have been incredibly beneficial to me. They consistently make an effort to connect with me after each match, providing detailed insights into my performance. They highlight my strengths during the game and express their appreciation for those moments. Additionally, they pinpoint areas where I can enhance my performance and generate better results. These valuable interactions have significantly contributed to my progress over the past year,” Rai told Khel Now.

The 25-year-old added that the collective effort of the team was instrumental in their success in the previous season and they will be looking to replicate the same.

“The success we attained in the previous season was a result of the efforts put in last year. This achievement is attributed to the dedicated coaching staff, the players, and all those who supported the club,” Rai stated.

“To maintain this level of success, we must remain committed to our game plan and have faith in our coach’s guidance. We will strive to implement his strategies both during matches and training sessions, as this approach proved effective in the previous season. Trusting in his methods, we aim to replicate our achievements on the field once again,” he added.

Rai is looking forward to the upcoming season with all the excitement and wants to give his best.

“I’m thrilled about the upcoming Indian Super League season, especially with the addition of new players to our squad. We have a strong core from last season, and our goal is to defend the League Shield and clinch the Indian Super League Title!” Rai stated.
