Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti wants veteran Toni Kroos to take a U-turn on his retirement decision. The German midfielder won his fifth UEFA Champions League title with Los Blancos after they registered a 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
This was Kroos’ sixth UCL title as he also won a trophy with Bayern Munich. However, Kroos has confirmed that he would be retiring after playing in the Euros for Germany and played his last match for Real Madrid against Dortmund.
Kroos also provided the assist for the opening goal in the summit clash as his corner kick found Dani Carvajal’s head.
“I’m really grateful to Kroos,” Ancelotti said. “He finished at the very top, there is no way to finish higher than this. He had the boldness to finish it [his career] and he is a legend at this club.
“All the fans are grateful to him for his attitude, his professionalism. I’ve told him we are waiting for him to change his mind — we are waiting for you.”
Meanwhile, Real Madrid is soon expected to announce the official confirmation of Kylian Mbappe’s signing.
The Italian manager also said that they will look to fill in the big shoes of Toni Kroos.
“We have lost an important player, but we have players who can replace him and we will adapt and play a slightly different way,” Ancelotti said. “We have fantastic players and the resources to remain competitive.”
Real Madrid continued their supremacy in Europe as they won the UCL title for the 15th time. They have been a force to reckon with in the Champions League and Ancelotti was able to lead them to glory.
The gaffer concluded, “My target is to try to repeat the same emotion that we (have) the week after this game, this is the target. I have the luck to be at the best club in the world.”
