Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Jose Molina has revealed that the goal is to win the Indian Super League title again. In the previous season, the Mariners won the League Shield but lost in the ISL finals against Mumbai City FC.
Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan Super Giant won the ISL title in the 2022-23 season after beating Bengaluru FC on penalties.
The Kolkata-based club has got off to a decent start in the ongoing season of the ISL, winning four, losing one, and drawing two out of the seven matches they have played. MBSG are currently in second place in the ISL standings with 14 points under their belt.
Molina said he is with the club because the management wanted him to take charge.
“For me, it’s a piece of paper I need to sign. I’m here because Mohun Bagan Super Giant wanted me and I wanted to come. But if any one of the parties is not happy, the best thing is to shake hands and leave,” Molina said in a conversation with The Times of India.
Meanwhile, Molina led ATK to glory in ISL 2016 and he will look to replicate the same success for MBSG.
“Every time I win any title that is the best experience. To win the ISL in 2016, the title in the Hong Kong league (with Kitchee). These are all parts of my best experiences.”
The Spaniard wants to prove the club’s mettle in the AFC tournament after winning the ISL title.
“We’ll try to win the ISL (again) and play in the AFC next year to prove that an Indian team can be strong in Asia tournaments as well,” he said.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will face Jamshedpur FC at home on 23rd November after the international break.
