Most decorated and celebrated woman wrestler Sakshi Malik revealed on Wednesday that Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt’s successes at the Olympics motivated her to give it her all to win an Olympic medal during 2016 Rio game in Brazil.
Sakshi Malik became the indoor first woman wrestler to clinch an Olympic medal after she defeated her opponent, who is the reigning Asian Champion Aisuluu Tynybekova from Kyrgyzstan 8-5 in the 85kg category despite the fact she was trailing behind 0-5 at a particular stage in the medal playoff.
By admitting these [ successes of other wrestlers ], she has just few knowledge about the significance of the quadrennial sporting events, and it only got better the exploits of two-time Olympic medal winner Sushil Kumar and London games bronze medalist winner Yogeshwar
Sakshi revealed in an exclusive interview when quizzed about her career and her role.models. In her quoted response, it was after she got into wrestling and started winning medals at the junior level that she began to grow interested in all categories of the events.
“as time goes by, Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt started to win a lot of medals at the Olympics games, and these served as an excellent motivation for me. ”
With the postponement of the Olympic games due to the global pandemic spread there is still time left for athletes to prepare well ahead of the quadrennial event, Sakshi Malik is hopeful of excelling at the Olympics as she puts her preparations in top gear.
