Six-time major champion Boris Becker reckons Daniil Medvedev will win more Grand slam titles in his career. Medvedev is currently only 25 years old and won his first slam title after defeating the World no.1 Novak Djokovic in straight sets by 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday.
Medvedev has shown the skills to go a long way in his career and finally broke Djokovic’s incredible run. Djokovic had won 27 straight matches in four slams of the season but Medvedev was able to put an end to the Serbian’s dream of clinching the Calendar slam.
Medvedev has a solid game on hard courts and there is no doubt that he is going to be always a favorite in the Australian Open and US Open if he keeps up the good show. The Russian has a potent serve and it was on display in the final against Djokovic as the World no.2 fired missiles at his opponent and gave him no chance on his serve.
Europsort expert Becker said, “Daniil Medvedev deserved to win today, deserved to win the tournament. He was the best player over these two weeks and only lost one set in total on the way to his first Grand Slam.
“I am convinced that Daniil will win more Grand Slam tournaments. “For me, he is the most ready of the young generation. He knows how to win matches, he knows how to prepare for the big matches. “You have to beat him then because he doesn’t get hectic or nervous. He’s one step ahead of [Stefanos] Tsitsipas or [Alexander] Zverev there.”
Meanwhile, Medvedev lost only a solitary set throughout the tournament and had an incredible fortnight as he hardly put a foot wrong. The Russian will aim to continue the good show and keep improving his game.
The Russian had lost in straight sets against Djokovic in the Australian Open final but made a staggering comeback in the US Open as he learned his lessons quickly and stuck to his game plan.
