The 2021 Tennis season is all set to begin amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The top three Tennis players – Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem have confirmed their participation for the ATP Cup 2021, which will be held just before the Australian Open. The tournament will take place from 1st to 5th February and it would be a perfect opportunity for these world-class players to gear up for the Australian Open.
The ATP Cup 2021 is the second edition of the tournament and the players will represent their respective countries. The qualification for the ATP Cup is based on the ranking of each country’s highest-placed singles player. However, Australia qualified on the basis of their host wild card. Due to the pandemic, this year’s ATP Cup features 12 nations as opposed to last year’s 24.
The reigning champions Serbia will be led by the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, along with Dusan Lajovic, Filip Krajinovic and Nikola Cacic. Previous year runners-up Spain will have 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal with Roberto Bautista Agut and Pablo Carreno Busta.
The US Open champion Dominic Thiem didn’t have a great ATP Cup 2020 and he will look to turn the tables in this year’s edition. The Austrian will have the company of Denis Novak and Philipp Oswald in Melbourne Park.
Alexander Zverev (Germany), Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev (Russia), Kei Nishikori (Japan), Gael Monfils (France), Denis Shapovalov (Canada) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) are some of the top players who will take part in the ATP Cup 2021.
