England opener Zak Crawley has said that his team is not thinking about results and they are more focused on entertaining their fans. England played with an aggressive approach in the opening Test with Zak Crawley starting the Ashes series with a boundary on the first ball against Australian skipper Pat Cummins.
England scored their runs at a run rate of 5.03 in the first innings and then scored at 4.12 in the second essay. Furthermore, England skipper Ben Stokes took a bold decision to declare at 393-8 in the first innings even when Joe Root was batting unbeaten on 118.
Stokes also set attacking fields throughout the Test match. On the other hand, Zak Crawley scored a fine knock of 61 runs as he made the most of the open field and also drove with class.
“That’s what we’re all about – we’re not about results, we always talk about that, we’re not about winning or losing, we’re about entertainment,” said Crawley to TImes Radio.
“Of course, we’re there to win, and it helps our brand and what we’re trying to do if we win, we get more traction if we win,” Crawley added.
The England opener feels they haven’t lost anything other than a game of cricket and believes they have gained a lot of respect and support for the way they played in the opening Test.
“But I don’t think we’ve lost anything this week, other than a game of cricket, which is (in) a five-match series. Other than that, we’ve gained a lot of respect and support and I think it’s great for the game,” said Crawley.
There is no doubt England will look to continue playing in an aggressive manner in the rest of the Ashes. England did dominate the first Test but they could not finish off the game when Australia needed 54 runs with two wickets remaining. But Australia got over the line after Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon scored 44 and 16 respectively.
The second Ashes Test will be played at Lord’s, from June 28 onwards.
