England’s new white-ball captain Jos Buttler has revealed that not much will change and they are going to play like the way they did under Eoin Morgan’s captaincy. Morgan was known to be aggressive as a leader and England has definitely redefined how white-ball cricket is played these days.
Buttler has taken over the captaincy baton from Morgan, who recently decided to retire and the England opener said he will like to lead in a similar fashion like the former skipper.
England would want to be at their best against India and they will look to come up with a collective effort.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Buttler said, “There’s not much at the moment that needs changing. I see the game in exactly the same way as Eoin. I want us to play in exactly the same fashion – to be really positive, really aggressive and not afraid of failure.
“There’s a clear identity that is going to outlast Eoin, to outlast me and will outlast whoever follows on from me as well. I don’t see that ever going backwards, I see some people just trying to take that even further forwards.”
Meanwhile, England has also adopted an aggressive approach in Test cricket and Buttler added that it is a reminder for the white-ball teams.
“It sounds like they’ve reminded themselves about just what an honour and privilege it is and how much fun they can have playing cricket, and not worrying too much about the results. And actually, the results have come by doing that. If anything it’s just a reminder for the white-ball teams that that’s exactly the way we want to play cricket as well.”
England is high on confidence after their brilliant form in the Test format and they will be looking to carry the same in the T20I series.
Meanwhile, Jos Buttler is in prolific form as he scored 248 runs in two innings against the Netherlands in the recent ODI series. Buttler had also scored 863 runs for Rajasthan Royals in the Tata IPL 2022 and had bagged the Orange Cap in the tournament. Thus, he had played an instrumental role in taking RR to the final of the competition.
